Serenade

Program Note:

Serenade describes the inner feeling of author’s nostalgia, especially the sound of rainforest – the breeze, the dew, the insects, etc. Born and grew up in Malaysia, the author has exposed to multi-cultural music from Eastern to Western. In Serenade, the author has combined different elements and techniques, including the combination of both pentatonic and Gamelan’s Pelog scale, the bi-tonal quality by using the advantage of orchestration, the use of Malay’s tune in the ending section and the imitation of Rebab’s (Malay string instrument) performing technique.
