Sonata

Instrumentation: Viola solo

Duration: 8 minutes

Program Note:

Breaking the barrier of composing music based on lyrical melodic elements, the core concept of Sonata for Viola solo is to build two contrasting ideas in one music moment. By using the possibilities of harmonics and performance method in the first section, the music creates the sense of naïve character but with sophisticated attitude that the sparkling motive never repeat and displayed in many different figures; while later in the second section that is full of unstable running notes, the music creates the furious, aggressive and chaos emotion which is conflicted with the first section in generating the music’s flow and to move the audience forward.
