Reimagining Homescapes

Reimagining Homescapes reflects on home, memory, and cultural identity through a contemporary reimagining of ronggeng, a Malay social dance tradition. Drawing from its musical character alongside elements from Chinese and Western practices, the work does not seek to reproduce these traditions literally. Instead, familiar materials are reshaped through changing textures, gestures, and orchestral colors.

The piece approaches “home” not as a fixed place, but as something continually reconstructed through memory—where sounds from different cultural experiences overlap, shift, and take on new meanings over time.
